Introduction to Financial Modeling Course Overview
The Institute for Finance's Introduction to Financial Modeling program is a 2 day course that introduces you to the basic financial modeling skills required in investment banking and related areas of finance. The class meets approximately six hours per day each on two consecutive Sundays. The course will be held on the campus of Columbia Business School and is designed for current EMBA and MBA students.
The course is designed to be a practical introduction to financial modeling. That is to say, you will learn how things are really done in investment banking, and not just the theory that is taught at most academic institutions. Specifically, the course is designed to teach three types of financial models: (1) integrated cash flow modeling, (2) leveraged buyout (LBO) modeling and (3) accretion/dilution (M&A) modeling. In addition to the model exercises completed during the class sessions, one additional modeling exercise for each of the three topics will be given out to students, allowing students the opportunity to get additional modeling practice and experience.
The class is geared towards students that are seeking careers in finance, including:
- Investment Banking
- Private equity
- Hedge funds
- Equity research (buy-side and sell-side)
- Asset management
- Corporate development
